자폐성 장애인, 21 살 이후...'한국자폐인 사랑협회' 안내...

 

 

우리가 흔히 부러워하는 소위 '복지국가'인 미국에서 조차 21살이 되면 자폐성 장애인들을 위한 법적 지원이 끊어진단다.

 그렇다면, 우리나라는...?

발달장애인 지원법이 아직도 국회 통과 못 하고 대기 중이다.

                                                'Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism'(더그 플루티 쥬니어 자폐증 옹호 재단)에서 벌이는 '21캠페인'의 포스터이다.

오는 26일 만 21살이 되는 더그 플루티를 기념하여, 21살이 되면 갈 곳이 없어지고 법적인 보호가 눈에 띄게 줄어드는 자폐성 장애 성인들의

취업을 위한 교육과 훈련을 시키기 위해 기금을 마련하는 캠페인이다. 더그 플루티 재단 뿐 아니라 미국 내에는 자폐성 장애인의 권익 옹호를 위한

수많은 비영리 단체들이 움직이고 있다. 우리나라에는 '한국 자폐인 사랑협회'( http://www.autismkorea.kr/2012/ )가 유일한데, 2006년 설립된 이후

자폐성 장애인과 가족들을 위해 활발하게 옹호 활동을 하고 있다. 주변에 계시는 자폐성 장애인들의 가족에게 많이 알려주시기 바란다.

21 Campaign

This November, the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation will launch its "21 Campaign" in celebration of Dougie, Jr. 21st birthday on November 29th.  The goals of the campaign are to raise funds and awareness of the many adults living with autism and the unique challenges they face. More than 500,000 children with autism will reach adulthood within the next ten years. Adults with autism are often left without any government-mandated support. One in three young adults with autism has no paid job experience, college or technical schooling nearly seven years after high school graduation. The unemployment rate for adults on the spectrum is estimated to be over 80% Those numbers are just not acceptable to us. That's why this year we've also been supporting job coaching, education and training for people on the autism spectrum to help them meet those challenges. These learned skills will help people live happier and more productive lives. We can't do it without you.  So many more people living with autism need the critical difference that only together we can make.
